"Don't you stay at home of evenings? Don't you love a cushioned seat in a corner, by the fireside, with your slippers on your feet?"
Feel Good Furniture was set up in 2003. The business originally set up as George Doyle Furniture Design in 1997 after being approached by a local business to supply them with furniture frames.
Based at the time near Monasterevin, Co. Kildare the business would eventually move six miles down the road, near the village of Ballybrittas, Co. Laois to a 10,000 sq. foot premises. The original company that we started making furniture frames for had one main request and that was that all the frames be made from beech – it being the traditional wood used in the making of furniture. To this day we have not deviated from this original request.
Our biggest problem was sourcing the beech. Having originally used certain timber providers, both locally and abroad we eventually made contact with a sawmill in the Black Forest of Germany. That was 15 years ago and we still have a healthy relationship with the same mill.
We believe it’s one of our major selling points as nearly all other frame makers nationwide use birch timber. In fact, we are often approached to sell bales of beech, as we are only one of a few people, if any that import such a large volume of beech and at such great quality.
With a highly skilled workforce, we pride ourselves on our ability to work with all of our customers on new model designs and prototyping and producing volume to certain deadlines.
We have developed our own in-house system which allows us to work to tight deadlines. We have all up-to-date machinery and skilled operatives in which to produce the frames. We also use oriented strand board (OSB) as the other main product in our frames. A quality product, which we source from local hardware’s. It also helps with the prices we charge as it is a substitute product for plywood but very effective none the less.
A few years back we invested in a clipping machine, which we bought from the USA. It has dramatically sped up our operation and its another thing we can offer our customers as it helps speed up the upholstery end. It is only one of two such machines in the country.
Laois is a very central county in terms of geographical location and we are based just 10 minutes off the new M7 Motorway. We are 40 minutes from Dublin and 2 hours from Cork. We have our own transport and therefore can deliver anywhere and at anytime.
